When native iOS is the right choice

Most business and commerce apps are well served by React Native and Expo: one codebase, shared logic with the web, faster to build. Native iOS earns its higher cost when:

  • The app is built around platform capability, such as advanced camera and sensor work, ARKit, Live Activities, widgets, App Intents, Shortcuts, or system-level integration.
  • It is performance- or graphics-intensive in a way a JavaScript bridge would hold back.
  • The audience is overwhelmingly on iPhone and iPad, and the cost of a second platform buys nothing.
  • The experience needs to feel unmistakably native, down to the animations, the gestures, and the details that make an app feel like it belongs on the device.

The API contract with the backend is defined and written down, so the iOS client and any web client stay consistent as both evolve.
